English at the Hotel

Check in at a hotel in English with simple phrases for your whole stay, from reservation to checkout.

The lesson

Checking in

At reception you can say: I have a reservation under the name Ethan. or Do you have any rooms available? The receptionist may ask: Could I see your passport? and How many nights are you staying?

Asking for what you need

Use polite requests for anything you need: Could I have an extra towel? Is breakfast included? What time is checkout? Where is the elevator? Could I have a wake-up call at seven?

Solving small problems

If something is wrong, stay polite: Excuse me, the Wi-Fi is not working. or The room is a bit cold. The staff will usually help quickly. A calm, friendly tone gets the best results.

Checking out

When you leave: I'd like to check out, please. You can also ask: Could I have the bill? and Can I leave my bags here for a few hours? Checkout is usually around eleven in the morning.
