The lesson
Why this question matters
Tell me about yourself is one of the most common things you will hear in English, in a new class, at a new job, or when you meet new people. The good news is that you do not need a long, perfect speech. You just need a few simple sentences about who you are. In this lesson we build that answer step by step.
The core sentences
Start with the basics using the verb be and the present simple. My name is Kiora. I am from Ireland. I live in a small town. I am a teacher. I am twenty-eight years old. Notice that with he or she the verb changes: He is a chef. She works in a hospital.
Add family, likes and hobbies
Make your introduction friendly by adding a few details. For family: I have one brother. His name is Sean. For likes: I like dogs and pasta, but I do not like olives. For hobbies: In my free time, I like painting and reading. These small details show your personality and start a real conversation.
Tip: keep it simple and choose
You do not need to say everything at once. Choose two or three things that fit the situation. In a class you might say your name and why you are learning English. At a party you might say your name and a hobby. Keep it simple, smile, and be friendly. That is the most important part.
